So yes, I purchased exhaust deflectors based on word of mouth that turned out to be BS if you can imagine. Here is a quick video to show exhaust from a 680Fp with and without the deflectors installed.

Thanks for the review, Glenn! I was considering the installation.
I did find that replacement of two cylinders with bad rings helped. :-o

I bought a set, too, Glenn, as you know. I just don't know if they are helpful or not. My issue that eventually cost me way too many thousands of $$ was corrosion under the skin behind the exhaust port on both engines. Over the years that corrosion ruined the skin and the braces underneath...pretty much all the way back to the aft end of the engine. I was up for trying anything that might prevent that from happening again. So, I don't have an answer yet. Ask me again in 40 years... ;-)

Well, I don't think the deflectors are going to help for the following reasons:
1) The reason you had the problem is your airplane most likely had loose or missing rivots for some time that no one fixed. Fixing them would have most likely solved the issues you had.
2) The deflectors actually put more pressure on those same spots as now you don't only have the same exhaust gas running by but you have blocks to try to push it up. The connection between the exhaust deflectors and the gas will now take on more pressure and most likely have issues sooner than you would without them.
I hope they work out for you but I can tell you with 100% certainty that my engine with them is twice as nasty as the one without. Just make sure you look at them each year to make sure they are tight against the skin because they won't prevent internal problems if they are loose.

Thank you for the input. Good points all. I think I will call the guys in Missouri who are doing my annual and ask them about pulling the deflectors off. See what they think... Again, thanks
