Title: Change a Tire....
Post by: jensscott on October 01, 2017, 10:05:23 pm
Does anybody have a recommendation for a small jack to change a main LG tire?

Thanks

Jens

We had to change a tyre in the field several months ago without the standard jack.

We used the jack plate with a heavy wooden stay under it then used a forklift. It worked a treat. Other wise there is a specialised jack to change a main wheel that I've seen at out local commander centre

Make sure you wire the break disc to hang in the brake pads and not slip out, or else it's a b*tch to get back on the old 520's with the Goodyear brakes. Call Morris and ask him how it's done. Trust me - been there, done that with another mechanic.

As a side note, the Goodyear break pads are becoming rare and very expensive, so if you see any on a sale somewhere, buy them. And whatever you do, avoid braking!  ;)

I use a regular jack from auto parts for that.  There is a tip on the bottom of the strut for a regular jack and they usually extend enough to get the tire off the ground.   I'm talking about the small stand jacks.  If you need a picture let me know and will take one for you.
