Title: Selling jets
Post by: Steve binnette on October 21, 2017, 11:54:03 pm
I just watched a new series on Tv called selling jets.

I found it interesting and I I think you guys will also like it because we are familiar with the products.  The problem is the clients on the show that are coming in to purchase these jets are truly clueless!

Really clueless, leaving the sales guy open to blowing a bunch of smoke up their butts!  The clients were asking questions like can I fly it, would leasing it cover my costs and is the maintenance expensive.

For instance These sales guys are trying to explain the difference between a phenom 300 and a lear 60!  It is a ridiculously complicated and just ripe for BS from the wrong sales guy.

Upselling a person never works in my book and in these transaction it is oh so tempting for the sales guy.

My 23 year old daughter just started selling for our company.  I am going to have her watch this show and see how keeping the clients true needs always in focus will drive her to a sale.  Not upselling or over promising!.

Fun show to watch for us airplane people.

Agreed. I don't believe in sales tactics like that. Be true to your word and don't lead them up a garden path.

Is it as realistic as Airplane Repo? That had to be the most fake "reality" show I've ever seen, but maybe this one is better...

I would guess that since the last thing a sales guy would want someone to know was how much advantage they were taking of them that it is entirely B.S.

It has parts that are totally scripted, no doubt.

It shows a group of people totally unlike us, that also buys airplanes.  What a pain to sell a plane to those type of people.

Maybe we can get Bruce or somebody else to tell us what it's like to sell to the completely clueless!

Then they try and get these people to use their airplane on the brokers 135 certificate.

I want to see some follow ups after a year of ownership.

My wife likes to watch, so it's a good way to show her different airplanes.  Now she know what a phenom 300 and a CJ4 are!

That's a good thing!

I know a guy who used to be a Gulfstream salesman-- he still sells airplanes, actually, but not for Gulfstream any more.

Anyway, he mainly tries to sell to people who already own airplanes-- he refers to buyers who don't already have an airplane as a "concept" buyer and says they are very rare.

I'm sure that the Cirrus salesman deals with concept buyers all the time, but much less common in the jet world...
