GSIO 540 Mag Leaks
« on: November 16, 2015, 09:53:43 am »
My airplane has been in the shop almost 5 months and part of the reason is the shop can not get the mags to stop leaking oil.  I'm not talking about a slop drip, I'm talking about during a 5 minute taxi having the entire side of the airplane covered in oil.  Looking at the manual and talking to Morris it appears the GSIO540 has a brass shim, a paper gasket, the accessory gear piece, 2 o-rings which I'm not sure what good they are doing, and finally the gasket between the gear case and the mag itself.  I spent all day yesterday putting these into place with and without gasket sealant and it's still blowing oil out like it's a garden hose.

They shop does not have new brass shims, nor the correct o-rings, so wondering if that might be the problem or if something else might be going on.

Thanks,

Glenn
