1700 nm milk run with a stop or two each way is just not fun for our staff.
Two stops on a 1700nm flight in a 1000? I thought that would be one stop, and only into the wind. My farting around on Foreflight shows that 1700nm with a tailwind is usually a nonstop flight.

So what's it like in the real world? 800nm legs?

From a range perspective, a no-wind 1700nm leg shouldn't be a problem in an RVSM 1000.

I can do 1500nm legs in my short-range, non-RVSM 980, even with a slight headwind.

More than one stop against even 100 knot plus winds is a choice, not a requirement.

One of my brothers had a Citation V for a while, and we did some trips in tandem. He really didn't have any more range than I did, and stopped about the same places. He was quite a bit quicker, however, and I think probably did better into a headwind (but as a slight counter, he also flew higher, and thus had stronger winds to deal with).

Wondering if you would be able to share much about your brother's experience with his Citation V??    I've been going back and forth between a V and an Ultra.   With a brief sideways look at CJ2...     My biggest fears are mechanical reliability and that our staff like riding in it!    Cheers

Sorry I didn't follow up. My brother had a very positive experience with the V-- flew it around the world, in fact. I think from a reliability point of view, he had no issues.

However, he did make the mistake of taking it to a Cessna service center for a major inspection, and in addition to screwing some stuff up, they generally cost him a lot of money. Corrosion issues... so I would be careful about the airplane you buy.

So do you still have the Commander or have you already sold it?

Sorry for belated reply.   Unfortunately we sold our 1000.   It's gone to a good home with Airspray up in Red Deer, Alberta.   Now the proud owners of 14 turbo commanders!  We just brought our new super S2 citation home from pre-buy and phase V inspection..

THANK YOU!!   Really appreciate the feedback.    I kept your advice in mind during the prebuy on our new bird.    We dealt with "X" air (Xavier) down in the Uvalde, Texas.  Not to be confused with Sierra.  I can't say enough good things about the work he did on our new bird.  Outstanding facility and outstanding guy in my opinion.

S/II with the Williams engines? That should be a heck of an airplane!
