Was that you Adam?
« on: December 12, 2018, 07:48:54 pm »
I was on Seattle center today and a turbo commander was checking in saying he was a slant India.

I assume it was Adam taking his 680 to aero air

I don't know if it was Adam, but I saw N171AT on the ramp at HIO (and even better, in the hangar that evening!).

Could have been! I was on Seattle, and they wanted to give me the RNAV into HIO, but I declined as I've actually never done one on the new-to-me Avidyne, so just wanted to not overload myself and stay with the ILS. Meant they had to vector me around for the "wrong" runway, but I think it was the right decision.

What a coincidence. I remember reading here that you were taking your plane to a service center because you were done down south.
I heard your discussion with the controller and guessed it was you. Who else flys a 680V.
I was taking my PA-12 to pacific coast avionics for a garmin 345 and 635 upgrade so I can have adsb and traffic.

Eric, you'll love the 635. That is what I have in the Citabria. It's amazing how much traffic is out there!

Around HIO, it helps that all the flight school airplanes already have ADS-B.

Good to see they are not wasting any time getting on Adam's bird.  I really hope he has a much better outcome this time.

Wow! They don't mess around, do they? First generation and last generation side by side!

Great to see a professional approach to all this, for a change. Clearly marked panels, etc. Can't wait to get her finished, but at the same time some trepidation as to what might be lurking under said panels... :o With most of the outboard fuel cells probably needing replacing and new boots, we're looking at $30K straight off the bat...  :-[

But it's gonna be done right this time, and that makes it worth it.

You know Adam...  If nothing else... your windshields look terrific… maybe one of the best parts of your journey so far.

It was interesting looking at your airplane. One of the reasons my airplane is in the shop is to replace the rudder trim tab heater. It doesn't look like yours has a heated rudder trim, or even the rudder slot heater! I'm sure that was a result of things they learned over time...

It's missing a lot of things the later ones had:

No series starts.
No continuous igniter (even though it has continuous ignition installed).
No NTS testing system.

Etc, etc - very simple systems aircraft (for good or bad).

Does it have the NTS system?

I believe on the 695Bs, they again did away with the NTS Test system, because of too many false positives.

Also, when you say "no continuous igniter" do you mean no switch to turn it on?

The Jet Commander used to have a button that you pressed for ignition. It was some sort of membrane which would slowly pull away from the contact on the other side, so you got roughly 30 seconds of ignition and then it shut off. Of course, there was no light or any other way to know the ignition was on.
