Pitot tube pricing insane.

So, one of my pitot tubes is incorrectly mounted. It has the drain hole on the top, so has been installed wrongly (a left side one mounted on right side). I literally had a nervous breakdown when I got the quote for a new one:  $11,137.29!!!!! I mean, are these people insane? 

A used one they found was still $3-4K, which is total madness. How can a used pitot tube be almost $4K? I mean, these are standard parts and parts numbers, no? Probably shared by multiple aircraft. What is going on?

Man that sucks,.  Any chance you could  drill a hole on the bottom side and plug the top hole.

I felt the same 2 years ago when we figured out that the installed Pitot tubes had a different P/N from the IPC and we had to change them. The price was around $10K each and what was more incredible was that the Left side Pitot was $3K more expensive than the right side.

You can find pitot tubes around 5K, but I think they are either SURPLUS or PMA. I depend on your spare parts politics. Natalia found pitot tubes for us, maybe you can ask her if you want a better price option around $5K each.

No, this pitot tube has been installed for decades. Might even be from factory and just a mistake.

I'll ask if the drain hole can be re-drilled and plugged. Thanks for parts connections - I will have to do some sleuthing myself if there is no easy fix. I simply refuse to pay $11K for this part.

I thought that there was a guide on the back of those to keep this from happening.

What is the part number?  I have a couple new left and right that I bought for spares for the 680FL I had before the jetprop and they might be the same on yours, but I am not sure.

If it's from the factory, tell Geoffrey you want it fixed under warranty and see what he says!
