In the beginning I think the STC was a way to remove some of the mechanical items that could at some point need maintenance. And Don is correct as several owner/operators have reported nacelle cracking due to airflow that was not there when the clam shells were there.

I have kept them and see no benefit to removing them.

Our 681 came without the Clam shell doors, and we flew it for a few years without them.  Rear passengers who have very good hearing, can hear some air burbling in flight back there. And installing the clam doors back onto the machine, creates a much nicer even sound in the rear cabin i was told, plus i saw about an increase of the TAS of 3 to 5 knots.

Big deal for me at least, our daughters' first trip in the 980...  Funny the plane and I match ages, yet its in much better shape than me!!!!
