Selling or parting out the 680V?

This is one tough decision to face, but recent developments for me personally would suggest it has to be taken into consideration. Does it make any sense to sink $70-100K into a 50+ year old aircraft of which there are very few left? I can't help but feel it might be just throwing good money after bad at this extended point. Maybe it's time to cut the losses and recoup some of the costs and put that to better use.

What a decision to be contemplating at this point in time of your 680V journey.  As I related in another thread last year, I have done only one project aircraft and while I had doubts many times I was just too deep into the project (money and time) to bail out. Thus I will NEVER do a project bird again.

I have to say that other than the personal feeling of satisfaction having completed the project... there was not much else I was happy about. Not even flying it. Every time I would fly it I would think about how much this or that cost in time and money.

So I soon sold it and got about 80% of what I had in it not counting all the lost flying time.

Pretty much this is a decision that ONLY you can bring clarity to and decide what is best for you and your circumstances at this point in time.

Skyflyer - It's the lost flying time that's been really getting to me as well. We only have so many years of flying in us before health, cognitive or money reasons prevent us from doing so. That's what I feel the most upset about in this whole mechanic's debacle - like time has been stolen from me.

The $70K it's going to take to get her where she needs to be will put me about $70K over what I could ever get for her. Not the end of the world if you plan on keeping the plane for the rest of your life, but I'm not sure that's in the cards. If she parts out, I won't recoup the money I've spent, but at least won't bleed anymore cash from this point on. But the best thing was if someone buys her as she is and keeps her flying. She's almost there after all the effort I put in.

Adam, I'm really sorry to hear this. Unfortunately, I think you are making the right choice... frustrating after you've put so much time and money and effort in and come so close! But I think from a financial point of view, there is no question what to do.

Thanks Don. It is unfortunate, but such is life at times. I'm hoping to come back stronger down the road with improved finances and be able to get a later model. I'm not done flying.

Might have gotten a second chance with a shop in Tennessee that can work on it at a much slower pace and for less. Might ferry her over there. She's still for sale, but not a fire sale.

I think Adam May have reflected and I suspect he’s learned.  There is no upside to taking a plane out of a legit Commander shop and flying across the entire country and back in an effort to save money.
