Mike Patey's Draco Totaled Today
« on: September 16, 2019, 06:58:24 pm »
So sorry to see Draco turn into a pile of parts.  Mike, his wife and a friend are all injury free.  The accident happened at their home airport with a very strong cross wind with gusts.

Youtube has a video.

Mike is such an inspiration to aviation in general. His work ethic is beyond comprehensible. I feel he encapsulates the true American get-er-done spirit in a way rarely seen even here. Sad to see this plane gone, but look at it from the bright side - now he has a spare PT6 he can build a new project around!  ;)
Slumming it in the turboprop world - so you don't have to.

Quite an airplane, saw it on display last week at the Air Races.

It was quite a rough day there yesterday; I had packed up support gear into my trailer for the drive home about 1-2 hours before the Draco incident. It was a terribly windy, cross-wind day.

My Biplane racing buddy I support chose to leave his plane at KRTS until a better flying day comes along. Glad he did; it poured rain on us driving home and then it snowed on Donner Pass later that afternoon.

Sad to see this happen to anybody / any plane. And glad they all walked away.
