Here are some pictures of Bob Steele's nice 681 that he bought last year. Here are the before photos:

Here's what she looks like now! What a beauty! Nice to see someone put the effort in for some of these older birds.  :-*

I like the reverse paint.  Top of engine cowls and bottom of fuselage.

That’s how I painted my plane and I love it.

I was lucky enough to fly up to CHA with Kent on Friday.  Good times and great to see everyone!  :)

I said hello to Bob and Corey and took a quick look at the plane at CHA. Looked very pretty! But my question to Bob and Corey is how does it work to fly a Collins 106 flight director computer with an H14 autopilot and a G600TXi? I will admit to being simple minded but I cannot get my head around it.

I love the 681, it was great being back in it and brings back a lot of great memories.  I also love the 840 as it is a nice upgrade from the 681.
I might be stating the obvious, but i really like the Collins 106 over the H14. I thought the G600TXI is pretty neat as i have never flown in one before, maybe some day if i save enough pennies, however, our existing setup in the 840 is nice and it works well currently, so i am not sure i would do that until something fails in it?  We have a few tweaks we need to do with the GPSS steering and the Collins yet, but i am very happy with this autopilot and i love the altitude preselect feature also.
But it was a great weekend meeting and seeing everyone, i wish i could have brought some of the warmth back home though, i tried, but it didnt work. :-\

The H14 in mine is a museum piece. But it tracks a heading or NAV, and climbs and descends and might even capture the ILS (I've actually never tried) - that's all I really need an autopilot to do. Capturing GS etc is all very well and nice if it does, but I'm happy to coach it along and hand fly the last bit.
