-10 Hot Sections
« on: May 14, 2020, 12:11:19 am »
I just got a quote on my hot sections... roughly $30k each (well, one is more because I need a new wheel).

I decided to punt and wait a year or so. They weren't offering any special deals to do it now, and I'd rather not spend the money at this moment. But I thought the group might be interested in the cost.

Aren't hot sections like a piece of string? They can be $5K or $100K.
Slumming it in the turboprop world - so you don't have to.

No. There are certain things which have to be done, plus labor to open the engine up, etc. Then there are parts which are life-limited and need to be replaced (in my case, only one wheel, on one engine). Also, there are service bulletins which may need to be done. Then there is what you find once you are in there.

According to the shop who quoted mine (who do a lot of 331s), if a -10 is running fine and making normal power, they usually don't find too much that is messed up once they are in there. However, there is always that risk.

Everything except the "stuff you find once you're in there" can be forecasted based on the logs.
