Digital Radars
« on: February 07, 2021, 12:14:33 pm »
Now that I have the new autopilot, I'm starting to think that I should go all the way and get rid of my inverters. To do that requires a digital radar, since that's the only big thing that the inverters power any more (the copilot HSI, but I have a plan to replace that with a Garmin G5).

So, the choice seems to come down to the Garmin GWX-75 or the Bendix/King RDR-2100. They appear to cost about the same.

Either one would be displayed through my G600 or GTN750.

Any suggestions or inputs? Is the integration of the Garmin radar better than the RDR-2100, given that the rest of the panel is Garmin?

Don, I put the Bendix in mine with the upgrade. Speaks well to the IFD540. But honestly, it was a pricing decision. At the time they had an intro price for new owners and it cost me $15K. Think the Garmin was quite a bit more. But if Garmin price is on par these days, I'd probably just stay Garmin.
Slumming it in the turboprop world - so you don't have to.

I haven't gotten a quote yet, but from what I can see searching the internet, the list prices are basically the same-- around $21k. But I will find out if there are any specials or discounts or anything.

Garmin no doubt about it.  New tech. Reasonable repairs. Compatibility.
