Howdy
My 1953 AC 520 ‘new’ to me, has had its heater pulled out. Can anyone direct me to info about heater options? I was hoping someone has tromped down the path of getting approval for something that doesn’t include aviation fuel!

Don't think anything else was approved for them. And now, with so few still flying in the last 20 years, there's no incentive to STC anything else. I never used my Janitrol myself as I was always terrified of it being in tail. I remember one trip across the rockies in full ski suit at altitude as it was so cold!
If I were you I'd install something automotive that's removable before annual, if you catch my drift...

I always found those Janitrol heaters a bit scary as well. But in a normally aspirated twin, there aren't a lot of other options.

The Alde furnace in my Airstream trailer works great and would adapt well to aviation use... electric source for heat, glycol as heat transfer liquid, non flammable. A modifiable concept to any twin.... could be genius....
