Gang-
In the POH for my 520, once the gear is raised, it says to place the gear handle in the neutral position in order to take the landing gear out of the hydraulic system so that if the lone hydraulic pump should go out or the left engine fail, the gear will stay up. I wasn’t taught this during my initial training.
Oh and the standpipe within the hydraulic reservoir allowing some reserve hydraulic fluid for brake function on landing- if a leak should wring out what’s circulating in the system as a whole… these are elegant and simple solutions for different possible failure modes…
Is this common knowledge for these two items and is the neutral gear handle position usage SOP?
Honing knowledge and adapting my flight operations- routine to optimize what this old wonderful plane has to offer!
Thanks much
