Forum trouble
« on: September 13, 2021, 10:40:38 pm »
Am I the only one who gets a lot of missing image icons and question marks instead of icons?

I've emailed Glenn and asked if there is a simple update or fix to be had, but he's not responded. I know his interest lies elsewhere these days and the forum is a bit neglected. I'd love to shepherd this, but simply can not take on any database management now simply because I'm too busy, and know nothing about that stuff (and have no patience). However, I would be willing to chip in for a consultant to
webmaster it and keep on top of it.

I also would love to freshen up the forum a bit and add better graphic profile etc.

I'm glad it's not just me! I upgraded the OS on my computer, and I thought it might have been related to that, but I guess not?

There are all kinds of errors in the logs, so I'm guessing that somehow it lost track of where all the images and forum theme data are stored. Glenn would probably have to fix it. I would think with some understanding of how this forum works and all the appropriate passwords, it would just take him a few minutes.

Unfortunately, that's exactly what I see as well.

I would be happy to assist in hosting. Can have my team look at it.

Who "owns" the site?

Well, Glenn owns it I think since he set it up, but probably would just be happy if someone would take it over and manage it. Sean - do you have computer people that could manage it?

We really need to figure out a solution here. Hopefully one which would preserve all the posts, knowledge, and images which are already here.

I would like to help make sure there is continuity.  I can certainly understand if Glenn has lost interest and would like to move on.  Let me know how I can help.

Looks like it's back - and with all the correct icons, too! ;D

My firm does have a web developer that I am sure I can task with the project.

Adam do you have Glenn's contact info? Maybe PM it to me?

Thanks,

Sean

It appears normal now, however "the wheel of progress" goes round and round a lot longer to do anything... it took ~20 seconds to open up this "reply" window, and about the same time just to get to the next unread post.

Just thought I'd mention it.
