Palm Springs
« on: January 05, 2016, 03:43:01 pm »
We were down in Palm Springs just after Christmas, for a few days. Flew the 980 into Bermuda Dunes, which is nice and convenient for Palm Desert/Rancho Mirage. The Palm Springs airport is very convenient as well, but unfortunately now that there are no independent FBOs, it's really expensive.

If you're concerned about keeping the cost down, Thermal is an even cheaper option, but it's a bit of a hike from Palm Desert, let alone Palm Springs.

Lots of fun things to do there-- hiking (we did some great trails), golf (if you're into that), swimming, biking, etc. We took the tram up to the top of the mountain, where there is even snow and sledding.

Bermuda Dunes is where my bird used to live. It's a nice airport. They have a landing fee, but they waive it with a fuel purchase. Unfortunately the fuel is kind of spendy there. Thermal has much better prices and you can even self serve Jet A, which is kinda a rarity these days. Haven't been to Palm Springs in a few years. Last time was with the piston Commander and although I do recall it being expensive, they gave us the whole red carpet treatment, which impressed my passengers.
Slumming it in the turboprop world - so you don't have to.

Palm Springs used to be reasonable, back when there was an independent FBO there (can't remember the name).

Relatively, Bermuda Dunes is a good deal-- $6.90 @ PSP, $4.90 @ UDD, $2.90 @ TRM. However, self service is the only way you get that low price-- otherwise it's the same as Bermuda Dunes. And, I really don't like fueling airplanes that much-- especially something like the Commander. You always end up smelling like fuel, and standing up there in the hot sun (or rain, in other places)-- it's worth it to me to have somebody else do it.
