695 G600TXI RVSM
« on: November 15, 2021, 01:49:01 pm »
Is there an STC for RVSM for a single G600/600TXI display as long as the aircraft retains the copilot instrumentation? Are there any STCs for this setup with the 695B or do the RVSM STCs only apply to the 695A?

I'm pretty sure there are RVSM compliant 695Bs. I would assume the G600 or TXi wouldn't be a big deal, because RVSM is all about the pitot system and air data computer. I'm pretty sure you can make one RVSM without an EFIS display at all.

I have inquired at Aeromech at amending the STC to include the G600. I have their STC, but it currently limited to the Meggit or G950.

Natural step to add the G600. It is approved for the 441.

Is no one offering a G600 RVSM for the Commander at all? I am fairly sure I have seen G600 equipped 900s and 1000s advertised as RVSM compliant.

If there are, I don't see how they could be. Aeromech holds the STC, only Magic and 950 currently.

I know there is more than one STC. Google tells me that Twin Commander had their own, and it worked with the mechanical flight director system (or Meggitt). I would guess the Twin Commander STC would also work with a G600.

But maybe they won't sell you that any more?

Are there any plans to make the G950NXI available for current G950 aircraft?

Speaking to ECA they are working diligently on additional certifications for the G600 (think EMS). I don't believe there is a large market appetite for the 950 which makes anything beyond that unlikely.

I did speak to Aeromech and they are getting the SSEC Curve in the G600. That is great progress, once done we will be golden for G600 equipped RVSM. No ETA was given.

What happened to the Twin Commander STC?

Are there no other Twin Commander RVSM STCs than the one Aeromech has?

Long story but the only current way to RVSM a G600 plane is to have an aux altimeter setup per the STC(s).  It’s possible but not ideal and a shame.

This article indicates there are multiple RVSM STCs?

https://flightlevelsonline.com/2021/winter-2021/commander-tips-rvsm-and-autopilots/?fbclid=IwAR3ukfu6_GsSwh1ccbOAr9HTvZZRPIvPTIhl1sfiN8_i4kr91jDIoHBk_P0

I did the trailing cone test for all models back in the day and the goal was to effectively RVSM your 980 (or 690D, 690C, or 695A/B) with any combo of original equipment with the addition of IS&S digital altimeters or maggot, but there is, right now, no certification for the G600 to replace the Meggitt so the 2100/3100 G600 combo is particularly difficult. It doesn’t make sense but that’s another story.  I would like to invest in the G600 RVSM STC but simply don’t have the bandwidth to make meaningful progress. Also need Garmin EIDS for the 331 asap.

I suggested to Twin Commander on Facebook that they should send their new tech rep guy over here, both to introduce himself and to provide their point of view on this. I'm not holding my breath, though.

What’s the hold up on the EIDS?  That’s the engine display, correct?

Big market place for that.

Got this from Aeromech yesterday:

Hi Sean,

Good to hear from you. We are in the process of amending our STC to include the G600 TXi system, this is an active project of ours. I’ll check with our program manager about the completion date and will get back to you as soon as I can.

This is great news.
