Garmin Chartview Update Corrupted
« on: March 21, 2022, 12:20:38 am »
So I went to update my Jeppesen charts on my G600, all seemed normal, and when turned the G600 on, after going through the whole "Verifying chart data..." bit, it says "Corrupted."

So, I re-updated the data card, same thing.

So, I forced JDM to re-download the chart update (by erasing it's cache), re-updated the card, same thing.

Any ideas?

All the other stuff (NavData, SafeTaxi, Obstacles, Airport Data) updated just fine. So did the GTNs (I don't have Jeppesen charts enabled on the GTNs).

My avionics guy suggested rooting around in the files on the card and deleting the "charts" folder, then re-downloading the charts. Sure enough, that worked.

Database corruptions or failed updates are the most frustrating things because there is no rhyme or reason to it.
Thankfully most of us are dealing with Garmin instead of Collins Pro Line 21’s.

Database update used to mean you had the postcard update in hand to go with your Howie Keefe Air Charts paper booklet.

II assume your avionics guy is Bruce Franklin?  Nice guy.

Yes, Bruce does an excellent job. Over the 20 or so years I have worked with him, I think he's the best avionics guy I have ever used.

I've had more and more "corruption" or "failed to update" issues lately. I think the problem is that I switched to JDM for Mac a while back... now I see Jeppesen says not to use it with the latest MacOS-- great. Fortunately, I haven't updated yet.

Still I don't want to go back to my ancient Windows computer-- I think JDM for Mac is still better than that. And that machine probably won't run the latest JDM anyway.

Maybe this might be your issue?

Notice: Do NOT update to macOS 13 (Ventura) until further notice

Details: Testing performed in advance has identified that changes implemented by Apple in the new macOS 13 (Ventura) will cause the current version of JDM to malfunction. JDM will not be able to detect removable storage devices properly, such as SD cards and USB drives, as described in the following article:

"Wrong type of device: expected: removable but the actual card type is: hard disk" in Jeppesen Distribution Manager (JDM)

To ensure that you can continue to download and transfer JDM data updates, please do NOT update to macOS 13 (Ventura) until a new version of JDM is available. We will alert you when a new version of JDM is available to install and it is okay to update to macOS 13 (Ventura).

I saw that. I'm still on MacOS 12, but that doesn't seem good.
