Great article! Thanks for posting it. Good reading for anyone thinking about buying a Commander.

It is ironic that they talk about the demise of the single engine 112/114 series, yet in the end those airplanes were produced far longer than the twins!

You should buy it! That is what the panel looked like, when the JetProps were new.

Somewhere I think I posted a pic of our first panel upgrade, think it was early 1982/3

Great for the wall, vintage for 1995

Ha! If you attended FlightSafety, you will remember getting those every year. And that is almost exactly what I’m flying in the 840 regularly except mine’s not as redundant, given the 1000 has that peanut gyro

Frankly, a GNS430 with a flight stream and a GDL52 and I’m in tall cotton!  It’ll get you about anywhere in the world for as long as the old stuff works anyway.  Recently suffered the traumatic loss of the RMI which would have been close to partial panel shooting a DME arc without a GPS back in the day!  It’s simply way overdue for an update.  Of course there’s no way I can justify a major panel upgrade with clients waiting in line. Good times!

That was what the 690A I was flying this summer had--actually less, since it was just a GNS-400 with the old NAVs and COMs. It actually worked just fine-- once I remembered how to use the GNS-400 (which came back to me very quickly), it was great. I wish it had airways, but hey, you work with what you have.

The Flightstream with ADS-B In made all the difference in the world, though. I'm too spoiled to do without that.

Not a commander, but still found it an interesting read.  Vintage for sure, and could not have been much fun.
