What's New

So I heard there was some news, but this page is quiet. When someone who knows much more than I do has something to say about it, we'd really appreciate a post.

What are you looking for?

Barry Lane and I discussed this a few weeks ago at my recurrent. Personally, I think combining the Merlin/Metro and Commander groups is a good thing, as I'm sure there are parts where they can get greater volumes, especially given the size of the Metro fleet.

I will say that the loss of Geoff Pence was huge for Commander, and all Commander operators. We were so lucky to have a guy like that, and as someone who worked with Geoff 30 years ago, he was a wonderful guy.

I guess...what does it mean for Commander owners? What's the future hold? Do we expect parts prices to go up? Will STC development continue? Will any new SBs be created as the fleet continues to age, or will it only be ADs created by the FAA in reaction to accidents?

Is this less of a big deal than I think it is?

I don't think it is going to be earth shaking or anything. Sure, parts prices will go up a bit, but that is nothing new. Technical support is continuing, and while it's not at the level it was in Geoff's day, it is still happening.

Bruce probably has more information and perspective than I do, but I don't see it as all that big of a deal. As I said above, I think the combination with Merlin/Metro is probably a positive, given the size of the Metro fleet.

Over time, of course, as the fleet shrinks parts will become more expensive and more difficult to find. That is inevitable, and maybe this is a tiny shove in that direction, but nothing more than that.
