Best of luck!
Random question- the placard shows 'Gulfstream' for a 680.  I 'thought' Gulfstream didn't take over from Rockwell until the mid-80's and the 695A/B time frame?

Hey, yes it's true. Tough times, time to look after family/businesses etc. Maybe one day I can revisit my dream of a 1000-model.

The Gulfstream plaque came with the Century engine conversion, my guess.

Well, bye bye sweet N171AT. Sold. Dropped her off in San Bernardino this afternoon. New owner is enroute to Florida as we speak. He has Stan's Perkins 681 since prior, so is well versed in the model.

We had a little hiccup with fuel leaking out all over tarmac upon fillup before delivery, just before closing of contract (of course). I was frustrated beyond belief and feared the worst, a ruptured bladder (which would scupper sale for sure). But luckily, new owner is an A&P IA and after opening up some panels on top of wing, we concluded it was fuel line to engine that was leaking. A day later new one was in, I fired her up this afternoon and flew the short trip to KSBD without problems.

But wait - I seem to have picked up another Ted Smith thingy on the way back? Can't shake Ted!  ;)

I'll still offer moral support here!  8)

Sorry to see her go... don't be a stranger around here!

The Aerostar is a great airplane, although I haven't flown one without intercoolers.

Is the new owner keeping the 681 as well?

What is a Superstar II, again? I get the models confused.

I had a 601P with the Super 700 conversion.

Superstar II was the first 350hp conversion, they hung a pair of Chieftain/Navajo engines on with one big turbo instead of two. They have a reputation for cooking the accessories, but that can be mitigated. Also the fastest Aerostar ever made. If I pour on the coals, I can go faster than the Commander I had.

That tail number refers to the speed, doesn't it?
