Fuel and Oil Lines
« on: April 18, 2024, 11:47:42 pm »
What is anyones take on the new buzzword......replacing fuel and oil lines. Aero Commander has them "on Condition" and they seem to be fine to me, no leaks, not wet, not oily. Yet shop wants me to change them on this annual, where there were no sqawks. So now they are focused on flexlines, and cleveland brake disc. I would like to hear the group, and educate ourselves into next annual. Thanks.

I have some thoughts on the flexible lines, but I need a day or two to talk to someone a little more knowledgeable than me.

For brake discs, there is a tolerance in the stc paperwork.

My IA’s opinion, rubber hoses are mostly mandatory replacement at 5 years if you are 135. For 91 he changes at engine overhaul or ten years. 20 years is too long. Fuel hoses fail sooner than oil or hydraulic.

Teflon hoses last roughly twice as long.

There are a lot of hoses on a twin commander. Especially if you still have wet lines going to fuel/oil pressure gauges.
