Fuel leaking when parked
« on: February 19, 2025, 08:03:33 pm »
Are you guys closing your fuel shutoff valves when parked?

Bendix fuel servo overhaulers tell me the servo and flow divider cannot be expected to provide leak free fuel cutoff. They recommend closing the fuel valves.

Talking about IO 540 powered planes.

my habit was always closing the oil/fuel shutoffs after shutting down the IGSO's.  turning the master switch off then, and then turning the electric fuel/oil shutoffs back on AFTER the master switch is already off, so as soon as i turn on the master switch next time, the value should automatically open back up for next start.  But, which is why you always CLOSELY watch that start of the oil pressure when starting one up each time.

I don't, and I haven't had any leaks when parked that weren't fixed by a servo overhaul.
