Starlink?
« on: October 10, 2025, 10:52:12 pm »
Has anyone used Starlink in a Turbo Commander?

I have heard of it in a Shrike, but that has a plastic, non-heated windshield.

Will the antenna fit in one of the eyebrow windows?

Works easy in the Shrike. Call me if you want help with the setup. I just ordered 2 different non lithium batteries recommended by pilots in order to try it in the turbine.  I don’t have the mid continent power supply yet. Thomas R has a 1000 and said the mini worked great for him. Maybe he’ll chime in

Do you set it on the dash? Would that work with the heated windshield on a Turbo Commander?

Yes, I put a mini on the glare shield facing out the windshield and was able to get it to work. It was pretty finicky about the position. Wouldn’t work in a certain spot on the glare shield, then moved it a couple of inches and then magic! My wife was able to instagram at 30k so she was happy!  ;D

I tried to get it to work out of side windows but could never get it to connect.

How much is the monthly subscription?

Are you using one of the aviation packages? I vaguely thought there was some sort of speed restriction for the normal one.

You shouldn’t need an aviation plan unless you exceed 391kts. I’m not sure of the cost, it’s my brother’s Starlink, but it’s not much at all. Nothing like the aviation packages.

I have been using the starlink like Thomas. In the 690A, getting about 50 mbs with the unit on top of the copilot glareshield powered by this battery.  It’s way better than expected given most heated glass windshield operators can’t get it to work.
