Sorry I took a vacation as my devices resisted logging in here.

I’m open to and encourage the sharing of new data.  I would normally expect damage repair required as in the above captioned 980 to be the result of an event.  Tornado, severe downdraft, severe turbulence, a combination thereof while flying out of trim or sitting on the ground, or even a Gulfstream or airliner powering up nearby. The problem is, as much as we appreciate these planes for all that they do, we don’t know what they’ve been through every minute in any case so a close look by people who know the planes seems worthwhile.

Bruce, Barry Lane is big on adding an inspection panel in the vertical stab. Aero Air tells me that is unnecessary, because they can (and regularly do) borescope the tail structure. Any thoughts?

I think a borescope will give you a good idea if there is a need to look further.  The inspection panel can ease access and repair for sure.  We have seen some issues, most recently on a 1000 with some ugly cracks in stiffeners.  I’d not seen it before, and while repairable, it’s unfortunately a new owner inheriting the problem.  What led to the discovery was the dorsal fin related corrosion and that skin replacement which require the leading edge of the of the vertical to be removed. So I do not want to go through another buyer’s inspection without removing the dorsal that has a propensity to trap moisture.
