Landing gear squat switch
« on: July 10, 2016, 08:40:53 pm »
I landed up at Dayton a few weeks back for my training and found the 6 wires going into the left gear squat switch were all hanging down totally broken off.  My initial thought was oh shit, how am I going to trace back 6 wires to figure out which went where.

I consulted the manual along with Bill Leff and we could only find 2 wires in any wiring diagram.  We decided that the other 4 must have been put there for future use but never got used for anything as I've not found them listed anywhere.

The switch itself has 6 pins on it but we were not sure how to wire it back even with the 2 wires.  After consulting the manual for a while I discovered that when the airplane lands it actually opens the connection and the ground blower turns on.  This can be checked by putting it in ground cool and simply turning on the master.  You should hear the blower turn on and the gate door slam open when it does.

The switch has 2 columns of pins with 3 down in each column.  To properly wire it so that it turns off when on the ground and then connects the wires when it is in the air, you need to wire one wire to the top pin and one wire to the bottom pin.  Doesn't really matter which ones.

I will post back if I find out the other wires actually do something but so far I haven't seen anything not working.

Oh, and to find the 2 wires you are interested in, you will need to get into the back of the airplane via the baggage door.  Look down the wall to your right and just beyond the main breaker panel you'll see the main pressurization control box.   There is a huge connector in the side closest to the front( there is actually one on both ends but you want the one closest to you).  Unscrew it and unplug it. Look for pins J and W and trace them to the 2 wires on the landing gear.  Those are your baby's.

Hope no one else has this happen but just in case. :-)
