Here is a video of the 680Fp departing Hinton OK today on our last 4 hours before reaching home. Of course the 20 knot tail wind predicted by Foreflight turned out to be coming from almost direct north and given our heading turned out to be a net zero benefit. But hey, at least it wasn't a head wind.
https://youtu.be/JGEAJPixi5kThe guys at Hinton were very nice and even pulled the tractor out to allow me to tug the Commander up closer to pump. Their hose was way too short to fill a Twin but it all turned out good. We were planning to just keep flying as we came from San Diago. Would have given us a door to door of about 9.5 hours in the old 680FP. After flying over the town of Hinton in the late afternoon sun it drew us in for another adventure. It is kinda crazy but we actually enjoy the random stops and unknown situations. I asked Jacob what he wanted to do and without hesitation "STAY" came out. So we did.
We had dinner at an absolutely bad dinner in town and stayed at a hotel on the interstate owned by one of the Casinos and filled with "THOSE PEOPLE", you know who I'm talking about Buddy. The room was fairly clean and we got to sport around in one of those 1990's retired police cars for free. Well, I did fill it with gas. I had to explain to my son that these were the kind of cars we used to have to drive around, but I don't think it really sunk in. He seemed to not care either way.
Anyway, after the night we woke up early to look for a place to eat. Turned out they recommended a place right up the road and upon seeing it I realized it was the Casino that owned the hotel. We walked in the front door and got to see the machines and users but were quickly escorted down through the gills and into the Dinner to eat. Food wasn't bad and was a pretty cool little place. You'll see it towards the end of our trips pictures that I'll attach here as well for good measure.
