SRL on the retrofit Dash 10's?
« on: October 19, 2016, 08:40:06 pm »
Do the retrofitted 690's with the -10's have the SRL system of the 900/1000's?
Slumming it in the turboprop world - so you don't have to.

Adam I think only the airplanes that came from the factory with -10s have the SRLs.  That would be the 980 and 1000.  The 840 and the 900 came with the -5 from the factory.

No SRLs on the -10 conversions. You can actually tell a -10 conversion by looking closely at the EGT gauges. If they have a little slider on the outside ring of the gauge to set the redline (based on a chart), it's a -10.

They do not.  I actually own a -10T.  Did make the same inquiry when I bought the plane.

One of the comments I received was that the SRL is a 1960 piece of technology that is very expensive to replace or repair (if you can find one).  From an owner / operator perspective it is not a big deal to use the prime switches, and the torque limiter work fine without it.

That's what the people selling a -10T airplane say, anyway!

Personally, I like my SRLs.

There are a handful of 900's converted to 1000's and 840's converted to 980's which included SRL installation.  Those are the only SRL's you'll find that weren't installed in Bethany. Actually, most of those were probably converted there. I've always liked the "little blue lights" . . .

I might be about to find out, as I have a bit of a temp split which I think is SRL related. Apparently issues with it can either be related to the box itself or a sensor, and there are ways to diagnose which it is.

Until you have to replace and/or repair one.

Don you might want to read this (if not already) and see how close your condition reflects what is in the article...
http://flightlevelsonline.com/issues/spring12/article/flying-the-engine.html

I have never experienced a failure but seems to me that it would be more of an on or off not subtle or slow change of condition.

Not sure if this applies to your condition or not

You should really check the temp compensation circuit before you spend a pile of money on diagnosing your srls.  Does the temp differential still happen if you override the circuit on the overhead panel?  You should also find the value of the original compensation resistors and compare them to the current value.

Bruce, did those conversion include the bigger gear box and increase to 1000hp?

Mine is more of an intermittent temperature split. Fortunately, I'm working with a fantastic engine guy, I'm just waiting for a trip so I'll have a chance to try a few things.  He thought it's a pretty high likelihood that it's a sensor rather than the SRL itself.

What do you mean by the original compensation resistors to compare to the current value?
