New 695 Pilot
« on: November 28, 2016, 01:49:04 pm »
Hello everyone! I've been lurking on here for a couple of months and thought it was time to introduce myself.

I've recently started a new job flying a 695A for its owners, so have been trawling the internet for all the knowledge I can find on the type - and so I have found myself here!

Look forward to getting to know everyone (although from a distance across the pond).

Hi Adam, thanks for the welcome.

I'm based in the UK. Not a huge number of us over in Europe from what I can see so far. Shame really as they are brilliant aircraft.

Welcome aboard!

What's your typical mission?  How is your panel setup?

It will be interesting to hear how you do things on that side of the Atlantic.

Welcome and please post pics from your trips and tell us some stories.   Would love to hear how things work over there.

Thanks everyone for the welcomes!

Steve, it is very much a mix of anything from short 30 minute VFR hops to longer range all round Europe, as required. It's a pretty bog standard Collins panel, which I suspect hasn't changed a huge amount since it left the factory (other than addition of RNAV, TAWS, Mode S etc.). I have (hopefully!) included a pic of the panel.

I am guessing you have other nav equipment down in the center console.  Nice to have the HF.

You are operating a standard panel,  nothing wrong with that. Lot less updating to worry about.

I have the Collins 106 with alt preselect like you.

What's the cost of jet A around you and where did your plane come from?  Was it previously based in Europe?

Yes Steve, there is a Garmin GNS500 in the centre pedestal, which also feeds the MFD in the main panel.

Fuel depends really, but it's anywhere from £0.70 - 1.10 per litre (I'll let you do the conversions!)

The aircraft has been here for a few years now and with the same owners since it came from the US I believe. I have recently taken over from their previous pilot, who has moved onto other things. It's certainly a step up in performance from my last job, which was a C421-C (also a lovely aircraft in my opinion - won't have a bad word said about them!).

I've attached a couple of photos from recent flights. The first is just a random night shot over the UK from a month or so ago. The second was a sample of the foggy weather we've enjoyed here over the last week, and the third was taken during a transit through the London City Zone, which was good fun.

Beautiful photos, Rich.  Thanks for sharing them.  I have great memories of flying over the UK, first in F-4s and F-16s and then, in later years, in 757s and 767s.  Was always a pleasure!

Rich, I try to keep track of the European population of Turbo Commanders. Without giving up too much info, are you perhaps flying any of these reg's?

D-IHSI 695
D-IUTA 690C
I-BLFE 690A
I-MAGJ 690A
M-BETS 695A
SE-GSS 690C
SE-IUV 690C
SE-LZU 690A
SE-LZX 690B
VP-BCT 695B
VP-BMZ 690D
OO-ROB
OO-GOA
N840PN
N690CL
N691CL
N71AH 690
N771BA

Board member Patrick Kenney has his 690A based at Oxford, if you're ever in there.

Is there a reason why there aren't any G- registered Commanders?
