Agreed, this is a funny business. More and more is asked of pilots and on the other hand, less and less time is available to do what is asked of us. I suffer from exactly the same thing: been wanting to finish my CPL for years, do my tailwheel checkout, do my rotor rating, high altitude endorsement, but just don't have the time with work and family. Negotiating to go to SimCom next week now, and just fitting that thing is a huge nightmare. Most of us are cash rich and time poor, these days. Successful PPL's and owner-operators don't really have the time anymore to set aside to go get a multi rating with IFR privileges. That's a pretty big commitment. That's why the SETP and SEP sales keep racking up - it's just an easier path. This is what will make the Cirrus Jet work.

It doesn't help that the training industry treats you like shit either. Talked to FlightSafety because I wanted to see what the P180 Avanti initial would cost (I have a sweet spot for them - don't ask). They immediately came back with, you need 1500hrs, CPL and a class 2 medical. Why on earth? The $25K I'd spend isn't good enough with a PPL and a class 3? Are they kidding me? Is everyone who buys a P180 a contract charter pilot? No, of course not (I know of several who are PPL's). But that's how they roll and it alienates people. I'd rather spend my money somewhere else than go to FlightSafety after this. In fact, I'll go out of my way to spend it somewhere else, now. Thankfully SimCom hasn't asked for anything outrageous for TC training. Yet.

Adam, you know I disagree with you on the cirrus jet.  For starters, It's climbs like a commander one one engine and only goes half as far!

The rest I am in complete agreement.  I got shafted at a flight school here in LA at VNY, on a multiengine rating, envoy flight academy. Stay away, really shady outfit, but it looks good from the outside..

I am trying to get some of my kids their PPL .  My son got his PPL and now wants his Multi rating.  It is an eye opener, I can't imagine how hard it would be to do without somebody to help guide you

It's been really fun for me to help my kids. It's like I can finally coach them at something I am familiar with!

Oh I agree with you on the Cirrus for sure, Steve! I just think it will still be successful, despite all it's shortcomings.

I heard you mention Envoy before and I have advised against going there to at least one person I know.  :)

I guess I'm with Steve. If you buy a TBM or Meridian, you need to get trained anyway, so why is that harder than getting a multi rating? There is no written required for the multi rating, after all.

In the case of the Cirrus jet, you need a type rating for that, so you have to take a more difficult test than for a simple multi rating.

I think it's more of a psychological thing-- some pilots seem to think that every twin performs on one engine like an overloaded Apache on a 100 degree day. A Turbo Commander, on one engine, outperform's that Apache when it has both engines running!

I have to say, for $2 million, if the choice is N51DM or a new Cirrus Vision Jet, I'd go for N51DM. I just read Flying's report on the Cirrus, and other than the big, beautiful windows, I'm not impressed.

The 1000 will go higher, just as fast, farther, much larger cabin, much larger baggage, similar avionics, on the same fuel burn. And all in, the 1000 would cost the same or slightly less to operate (although the Cirrus does have warranty, so that might help a bit for the first year).

I bought a 690D a while back.  It already had a -10T conversion with approx 500hrs since overhaul, the air frame had 11,000hrs.  While the engines where in good shape the air frame not so much.  The plane cost me $800k.   Took the plane to Eagle Creek.  Repaired the air frame, put in a G950 panel, new wide cord props, striped the paint off to bare metal and repainted it, put in a new interior, and certified it for RVSM.  Total cost around $1.9m, plus a year of waiting.  Have flow the plane 600+ hours (several time coast to coast).  If I bought a 1000 for say $1.2 and put another $1.1 into it I would have cost me $2.3, well above the value of the aircraft.

Looks like it did, based on FlightAware.

Looks like they kept the paint, too. I wonder about the interior?

This one seems like a bargain... Garmin panel, 1200 hours to go on the engines...

It is missing logbooks.  Not sure how long a gap there is.

Would love that thing. I'm the kind of buyer these planes are made for - not afraid of missing books or funky history. But unfortunately, I seem to be in the only industry in the US that has seen declining business in the last year compared to everyone else reporting record sales. Not sure what's going on, but it's preventing me from being on the path towards a Jetprop!  ::)

Depending on what logbooks are missing and how many, that could be a big deal or a little deal. I saw some mention of FBI, and if those records were lost during the government's ownership, I'd probably be less concerned. If they were lost in Central America, I might be very concerned.

Alway fun to re-read an old thread. Did N695AB ever sell? It seems like it sat on the market for years and years... I never really understood what the issue with it was, but it just sat there.
