Friday's Flight before Harvey's Arrival
« on: August 27, 2017, 09:29:42 am »
I had no doubt that I would be grounded for a few days... maybe a week?  Both GW and I needed to fly last Friday (August 25).  Beautiful day to fly, avoiding early storm showers and ceilings.  The girl flew flawlessly...  :-)  And, it gave me a smile that will last through a few more days of heavy rain and chimney leaks!

Good you repositioned when you did ... I feel bad for all those in Rockport and other airports near by that have been wiped out.

Skip ahead to 8:30 for the airport views.

How were the winds?
Slumming it in the turboprop world - so you don't have to.

Adam,

I flew early enough Friday that the winds were not remarkable.  A little gusty, but not bad.  The Runway changed from 34 to 10 during my 45 minutes away, so they were shifting.  My local flight was actually pretty benign.  Probably nothing like the guys further south who had to fly north to evacuate.  As long as the hangar stands up, I'm pretty sure I will still have a commander later this week.  ;-)

But, wow, we ARE getting tons of rain right now...  In all my years in Texas, I, personally, have never seen this much rain...just not stopping...

Our house is dry, so we are good.   A couple buckets in the fireplace for drips is all.  Horses are wet, but they have places they can get to out of the rain, as well...

Skyflyer,

You are right.  Wow!  Leaving an aircraft in Rockport this weekend was not a good idea!  Looks like some real damage.  I am considerably further north in College Station.  All we are getting is tons and tons of rain...  Flooding is our biggest concern, so far...

Thanks for sharing the video.
