Here's a pretty nice looking 500B that was operated out of AZ and CA commercial certificates for many years.  I just flew this plane Thursday to the radio shop for removal of the FM radios and what I plan to be a complete laser engraved new panel with GTN 750, remote audio panel, and GTX 345R Bluetooth ADSB transponder and fresh annual by one of the largest Commander operators in the country.

I climbed straight to 15,500' where it ran flawlessly.  It's a light weight plane with just about 2,000 lbs useful!

Unadvertised so far anywhere else.  If you want to change the panel to your personal taste or do any other mods, the time is right now so give me a call.  The last 4 500's I've sold this year have never hit the paper.  This one is great and I would keep it for myself but I bought the 79 Shrike and have committed to the plane and panel. There's not a smoking rivet on the plane - they really knew how to put them together during this era.

I'm developing a full spec, but here are the basics:
1965 500B
200 SMOH Left and Right by Porterville Aviation repair station with Ly-con cylinders, etc
25 SPOH - Hartzell Compact hubs
12,000 TT - part 135 forestry platform (observation orbiting and traffic/comm platform)
Garmin GTN 430WAAS
Skywatch Traffic
S-Tec System 60-2 Autopilot

Good looking bird!

Mine is a fire commander for the past 26 years.

They kept them impeccable so they could renew there contracts.

I'm selling mine as well only because I need all weather capabilities.  HopefullY I'm making the right decision

Excellent.  I MAY have found a home for this one already.  Give me a call and let's talk about yours.  I just switched to the new Garmin Txi displays for my Shrike so I'm going to need to do something in the meantime as I'm fully into an Adam-like project  ;)

Thank you gentlemen.  I?m trying to decide now on a GT750 with remote transponder and audio or just another 430W with GMA 340 and GTX345.  There?s probably $10,000 difference in price.

For 10k do the GTN package.  Why have SD when you can have HD!

I could almost have one of these 500s for the cost of those 5 bladed props.

What's wrong with me?  These 500s are a great deal!

GTN 750 with remote transponder and audio is the way to go. No comparison to the 530.

It's insane how great a deal these planes are!

Stop thinking about the 5 blades :)

Well don't stop thinking about them... but a 500s to Catalina or SB.  On the cheap

Come on perfect plane!

Just saying

Lol - you guys are right. The planes are awesome! The basic joy of flying Commanders imho starts with a 500B (Adam will disagree but not to digress), I called the avionics shop and approved the 750 for installation!   ;D

Updated spec below.  I keep adding more equipment including a slaved HSI, a full color engine monitor with fuel flow, etc. The shop is finishing the instrument panel now along with an expert Commander annual.  This amounts to a free plane if just the new panel and engine value are considered. Then you have the recently overhauled compact props.  Those are $45,000 last I checked. I still see some 500's flying with square tip props, but the 500 hour AD is extremely expensive in my experience.

I'd put the airframe next to any plane with 4,000 hours.  I couldn't find a smoking rivet on the structure. It's amazing, but it is a Commander after all. It also has full zinc chromate.
