N526RJ Has a New Home
« on: August 06, 2023, 11:25:37 pm »
To my fellow Commander owners and operators, I have re-joined the tribe with the acquisition of N526RJ, a 500A Colemill Commander. Just brought her back from Georgia to our home base on the west coast. Over 40 years ago I became a lifelong devotee of the Twin Commander when I owned a 560FÖ what a machine! Now I own a 62 year old bird and I have a lot of work to do to bring her back to tip-top shape and show her some TLC. She is no turboprop, but old piston birds need love too.  Iím going to seek a lot of help from the brain trust so please be patient with me!

Welcome! Is there still a radar antenna in that nose?

There is a radar antenna and a working Bendix color radar system (previous owner just spent a lot of money to have it tuned up). I've yet to figure out exactly how to use it, not that it's needed much here on the west coast.

Read some of Archie Trammell's articles on radar antenna tilt control. That is the key.

Specifically this one, that I am attaching.

This is a very informative and sobering article - thanks. Like I said, I have a lot to learn and after reading this article, now even more.

Welcome! She looks great!
Slumming it in the turboprop world - so you don't have to.
