I probably shouldn't copy and paste from Facebook, but too bad... I suggested they come over here.

Dave Amis
We built that camera ship for the FBI at Downtown Airpark in the mid to late 90’s. It was one of two that we did for them. One of them was used in the successful apprehension of the Unibomber.

Billy Straus
Dave Amis still a good flying machine too! The side window was flat so no distortion.

Dave Amis
Billy Straus Yep! They wanted that window so they could sneak up behind a druggie and photograph the registration number.

Billy Straus
Dave Amis pretty cool history! it’s now probably one of the nicest 980’s out there.

Thanks Don, that is interesting stuff.  My side window is unique it is flat and a little Smaller than stock but the glass is perfectly clear.

To all the 980 owners out there, has there ever been a 980 with slipper tanks added?  Not sure I would want to be in the plane that long, but curious.  Never seen 980 or 1000 with them.

Can't legally be done, unfortunately. The STC doesn't cover the long wing models.
Slumming it in the turboprop world - so you don't have to.

Unneccessary, anyway. Don't the slipper tanks give you about the amount of fuel that a Jetprop with long range tanks carries, and adds drag?

No, I think he meant in addition to. So the fuel capacity would go up from 482gal to 582gal. Would be a cool mod if it worked, could almost make Hawaii possible. ;)

I don't know... I would buy a Williams engined Citation S/II if that's what I wanted to do. Probably cheaper and much more comfortable.

Interesting... probably related to that Eurocontrol issue with the autopilot and transponder requirements, if I had to guess. Where the transponder had to broadcast the selected altitude and autopilot status, which I don't think any of the currently certified (or soon to be certified) Commander autopilots can do.

Well—-yes my plane is up for sale.  I have not been using it and it seems like a good time to try and move it.

I gave it to Bruce to market and sell.   We are asking 1.695.  It seems like a fair price..

N9812S has been kept to the highest standards that I know you all appreciate and believe in.  If it’s broke I fix it.  Like most of us my family flies in her.

She needs to be perfect.

We have sold our business and all my kids have graduated college.  We just don’t have the same needs that we used to have.

It is still cool to just have a 980.  They are fantastic airplanes!

I am happy to keep her if the market is not interested.

Unless the market has softened a bunch, I think you will get that price. Yours is a fantastic airplane, with very low time engines (and the 7000 hour TBO!), solid avionics-- what anyone would want.

It is interesting for me-- since Covid, my business travel has largely dried up. Much of what I used to do in person is now done on zoom (and, to be honest, my business situation has changed as well). However, I'm still keeping the 980 and still doing a decent amount of personal travel.

Best of luck Steve.  She is a perfect plane and ready to go for the next owner.

Can I ask- how many hrs/year were you at before?

My peak hours were something like 150hr/year.  I settle in to about 120hr/year.

The last two years it had bee 60 to 80hr and a good portion of that was training or flying to maintenance.
