My concern about the really big winds is that they are great when they are pushing you along, generally not so good when climbing in or out of them or flying through them laterally-- particularly where they make a big bend. As a friend of mine used to say, "stay away from the elbow in the jet stream!"
When I came home from California the other day, just for fun I ran a flight plan for an Eclipse on the same route. I had the same time, because the Eclipse had to go up high to keep the fuel burns down, and up high the headwinds (really just a crosswind, but at 170 knots it doesn't take much crosswind component to be a big headwind) really hurt it.
And, to add insult to injury, it didn't look like the Eclipse could make the trip nonstop...
